Service

degenerates is a private messaging app built on Matrix. The hosted service is provided for private messaging.

Acceptable Use

You are responsible for your account activity and the content you choose to send. Do not use degenerates to harass, threaten, abuse, spam, exploit, infringe rights, distribute malware, or violate applicable law.

Accounts

Accounts use passkeys and server-generated Matrix IDs. Keep access to your passkey-protected device secure. Losing access to every device that holds your passkey can mean permanent loss of the account; there is no password reset.

Privacy And Encryption Limitations

The privacy policy explains what data is processed to operate the service. V1 includes passkey-backed encrypted key backup, but history recovery is not guaranteed if the passkey is lost, history predates backup, or required room keys are missing. User-facing device verification is not currently available. Do not rely on degenerates as proof of a contact's real-world identity.

Availability

The service is provided as-is. We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.
